I hope someone here can help me. I’ve tried everything I can.
Here is the situation. I have an Acer Aspire 5520 laptop. My connection was fine when suddenly my comp shut off (this has happened before). When I turned it back on I had no connection. I ran network diagnostics and tried every suggested repair. Then I called AT&T tech support and we checked everything he could think of. The last thing he did was an “ipconfig” and he said my ip address starting in 169. was defective. (And Im not sure if he said either my adapter or driver was bad) But after running network diagnostics I noticed a message that says “There might be a problem with 1 or more network adapters on this computer. The tech said I may be able to download this.

Any insight on this matter would be very helpful and greatly appreciated. Thank you.

is this a wireless or ethernet/wired connection? if its wireless can you pickup a 192.168 ip address if you connect via an ethernet cable?

one of the easiest ways i’ve seen of resolving a network connection wireless or wired problem is to right click on my computer – select properties – hardware – device manager – find the network card having the problem – right click on it select uninstall – now right click on network adapters and select scan for hardware changes this will go a step further than simply repairing it as it will change every setting back to its default settings and replace the driver.

1) No I don’t get a working ip address when I use the cable.

2) I tried your second solution, there was a box that said delete the driver software for this device. I left that unchecked. Then after the driver was reinstalled I had to reconnect to my network and its the same thing it says Im connected with Limmited connectivity.

Thanks for your help. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have any other computers connecting to the router? so we can rule out any issues with the router itself.

Try temporarily disabling any firewall software running on the computer as well in case this is blocking DHCP

Another way is to use Windows system restore to restore the computers OS back to the time it last worked – http://www.computer-adviser.com/restore-system.html

I tried a system restore that didn’t work. Yes the desktop I’m on now runs through the same router. The firewall is off. I’ve installed new driver thats working. If you like check out thislink to another site where someone has been trying to help me and it seems like we’ve tried everything and it seems to be a problem with the ipconfig?
