I used to build my own computers, its a good way to learn and it used to be cheaper, but now i would recommend buying prebuilt as you get a complete warranty, one thing goes wrong and you simply send the whole thing back, but if you put together yourself each component has its own warranty so you need to ascertain where the problem is, remove the component and then send for repair which is a real pain.
But if your doing this to learn about computers go for it, as its the best way to learn, more here
