I have Windows vista ultimate 32bit and have 3gb DDR3 RAM currently which I would like to upgrade because that is a very low amount for hardcore gamers like myself. I also know that 32bit vista only “supports” 4gb of ram. I was considering buying 6gb Ram and would like to know if that extra 2gb is completley wasted or still used when it needs to be.

anything over 3.5gb is really a waste as the extra 2.5gb will not be usable

So I pretty much have to upgrade my entire OS in order to add the RAM my computer needs in order to run smoothly. What exactly is the point of that.

If you want it to be able to recognise and use more than 3.5gb then yes you need a 64 bit operating system.
