Videos stored on an external hardrive were somehow converted to mpeg files and playback is just sound, no picture. how do I covert from mpeg back to wmv.

I am looking for a .wmv file player that has a rapid fast forward function of up to maybe 30X normal. I am currently using Windows Media Player and it seems to achieve approx. 5X speed. Any suggestions would be appreciated for free or paid software.

PROBLEM AM HAVING EVERY TIME I PLUG IN A FLASH DRIVE {TESTED MORE THAN ONE FLASH DRIVE} I INSTANTLY GET SHORTCUTS WHEN I OPEN THE DRIVE. THESE SHORTS INCLUDE ONE my documents,my pictures,my videos,my music and one called password.  THEN THE DRIVE BECOMES IMPOSSIBLE TO FORMAT UNLESS I FORMAT IT IN THE BIOS. HELP PEASE
