General Computer Questions

My computer was running perfectly well. Suddenly oneday, It wont start message said “Reboot your computer.” Mechanic came checked all points and found that if DVD writer is disconnected the computer is starting alright and said I need to purchase a new DVD Writer. Is there any other alternative ?
